Payouts to India, via Wise

A bank account in India gets paid through Wise instead of Stripe. Your balance still accrues in US dollars exactly like every other account; only the last step, the transfer to your bank, runs on a different rail because Stripe cannot reach an Indian account.

How connecting works

Wise has no hosted signup page for this, so the details are collected in Awaitful's own form, in three steps. Nothing is sent anywhere until you confirm on the last one.

  1. A one-time tax form

    A W-8BEN confirms you live outside the US, so no US tax is held back from your payouts. This form goes to Awaitful only, never to Wise, and is good for a few years before it needs resigning.

  2. Your bank details, or a UPI ID

    A bank account (IFSC code and account number) or a UPI ID, whichever you use, plus the name on the account and whether it is personal or a business account.

  3. Review, then confirm

    A last look at everything before anything is sent. Confirming is the one point money-routing details leave your machine: your name and payout details go to Wise, who create the recipient on their side.

The fee, and the exchange rate

Wise charges a small transfer fee, about $0.60 plus 0.5% of the amount, shown before you confirm a withdrawal. It is deducted from the withdrawal itself, never hidden in your balance. The remainder converts to rupees at Wise's mid-market rate, the same rate you would see on a currency converter, not a marked-up one.

When a payout lands

Wise reports a transfer as sent once it reaches your bank, but India's bank rails (UPI, IMPS, NEFT) can still bounce it back shortly after in a way that only shows up a little later. Awaitful waits a few days past that point before marking a payout finished, to catch a late bounce rather than call it done too early.

Changing your details
