Awaitful runs two kinds of its own lines. Paid house campaigns bid in the auction like any advertiser, and your 70% is paid by us instead. The fallback is different: it serves only when nothing at all is eligible, carries a bid of zero, bills nobody, pays nothing, and says so every time it appears. This page is about that fallback, and why it never pretends to be anything else.

## What a house line is

The auction serves paying campaigns first, always. Only when the draw comes back empty - an empty market, or [every daily budget already spent](https://awaitful.com/docs/bidding-and-budgets) - does the house line step in, bypassing the auction entirely. It carries a bid of zero, so the billing pipeline charges nothing and credits nothing; there is no advertiser behind it and no money moves in any direction.

## It declares itself

In your editor, hover the fallback line and its tooltip says exactly what it is: a house message that bills nobody and pays nothing. That self-declaration is a rule of the product, not a courtesy - a line that pays you nothing must never be mistakable for one that does.

**Why not just show nothing?**

Two honest reasons. A surface that goes blank in a quiet minute reads as broken, and a marketplace that fakes activity instead would be lying to both sides. The house line is the third option: the surface stays alive, and nobody's money is fabricated to do it.

## What it means for your earnings

Seeing the fallback means the market is quiet right now, not that anything is wrong with your setup.
